Remember the bonsai plant nursery along the main drag on Chevron Island? How can you not. Well, the bonsai garden has gone, but its spirit remains in the name of the strip’s newest specialty brew bar, Espresso Bonsai. Chevron’s latest addition is all about using ethical, sustainably sourced coffee beans to make the perfect brew. We’ll let you in on a little secret – coffee tastes better when it’s ethical.

Whether you’re a one-a-day coffee drinker or you’re known for throwing a couple down the hatch before morning tea comes around, it’s pretty clear that coffee is what makes the world go ’round. But, have you stopped to think about where your coffee comes from, and how it got into your cup? Well, you should. But if that’s too much thinking to do first thing in the morning, then get your caffeine-loving self to Espresso Bonsai. Not only will you find a bangin’ coffee, you’ll also sip away knowing that every single bean used here is ethical and sustainable. How do we know? Well, the coffee comes direct from owner Christian Harvey’s own highly regulated coffee plantations in Columbia and straight into your cup.

As you’ve probably guessed, this place is all about the coffee, with passionate baristas on hand creating magic from these ethical beans. If you’re into the alternative brewing methods like V60 pour-overs, then you’re in luck – it’s like a mini science experiment right before your eyes … except the baristas aren’t experimenting, they actually know what they’re doing, and they’ve got it down to a fine art. Whilst coffee is the main focus, Christian will be integrating simple gourmet sandwiches into the cabinet, and will utilise the space for coffee-focussed events, which are due to roll out over the coming weeks. With coffee such a hot commodity world-wide, it’s a given that there are some dodgy mass-producers on the scene, so, if you give a damn about where your coffee comes from, then make Espresso Bonsai your new best friend.
