A hint of nostalgia on the menu at Elston in Surfers Paradise

Take a culinary trip back in time and revisit some favourites from your childhood at Elston in Soul, Surfers Paradise, only don’t be surprised if they’re a little bit fancier than you remember. Head chef Ashlee Delander is reinventing classic dishes with new techniques and modern plating.

Elston is like the Jekyll and Hyde of restaurants. By day, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a casual bite and a beer against the backdrop of the ocean but as the sun sets, the venue transforms into a modern industrial wine bar and restaurant that oozes the style and sophistication of a trendy inner-city haunt. The menu takes you from dawn to dusk and beyond and can satisfy your every culinary whim. For morning feasts, try as you might the Nutella pancakes with marshmallow fluff and candy nuts are impossible to resist and for midday munchies, the barbeque pulled pork sandwich with house-made coleslaw is a sure-fire hit. The hefty 440-gram Angus sirloin is undoubtedly a winner for dinner.

The drinks list is equally as extensive and offers a vast array of local and international beers and wine, although no trip to Elston would be complete without at least one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails. The Poprocktini is a sensory sensation and consists of apple vodka, watermelon and peach schnapps, apple juice, passionfruit and pop rocks. Or for something a little more masculine, there’s the Jim Jarmushch Old Fashioned that is inspired by the flavours of coffee and cigarettes and is made with Cuban cigar-infused spiced rum, coffee liqueur, sugar and aromatics but it’s the Bacon-Infused Bloody Mary that is the talk of the town. The delicious, salty marvel features Bacon-infused vodka, lemon Worcester, pepper and tomato juice.

The venue is the brainchild of John Hussey, Dion Colefax and Ryan Hunter and was conceived to deliver a wine bar dining experience with deli freshness and an urban eatery twist. There is live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights from 8:00 pm. See our Stumble Guide for opening times.
