Eat your way into autumn with jaw-dropping new menus from Elk and Sparrow

We hate to break it to you, but summer is over. Whilst changing seasons can make you sneeze, as well as force you to spend too much money on a new wardrobe, we can assure you there is a silver lining – the food. With a new season, comes a wave of deliciousness as kitchens across the city embrace the flow of new produce. Popular Gold Coast establishment Elk, which last year won our Taste of Queensland Award for best breakfast, has dropped its new menu in sync with its sibling venue Sparrow Eating House. Move over summer, autumn has our mouths watering.

Owner Andrew Whiting has launched vibrant new autumn menus at both establishments, which perfectly highlight the new season’s wave of local produce. At daytime hub Elk Espresso, you can now have gnocchi for breakfast – that’s right, breakfast gnocchi is a thing. You’ll find it served with butternut pumpkin, chorizo, fresh basil, Persian fetta and a poached free-range egg with locally baked ciabatta. The new menu also features black pudding with charred leeks, fried egg, fried potatoes and confit garlic. Satisfy the sweet tooth with the red velvet French toast with lemon-coconut ice-cream with raspberry jelly and ginger crumb. Elk is known for producing some seriously mind-blowing creations, and its Autumn menu is no exception.

The culinary magic continues by night just a little further north in Nobby Beach at Sparrow Eating House, with new additions like the jerk lamb rump with farro, pine nuts, artichokes and blueberry jus, the apricot-torched tuna with pistachio and mustard leaves, and the scotch fillet with broccoli puree and crispy spec. The sweet delights include the all-new lemon and pavan panna cotta with rhubarb, white chocolate, ginger crumb and lemon sherbert popcorn. What a delight. Not that you needed an excuse to visit either Elk or Sparrow, but take our word for it – your taste buds are in for a fine time.
