New beachside den Easy Tiger brings specialty brews, sweets and all-day eats to Burleigh
With Burleigh Beach just metres away, top-notch coffee on pour, a crowd-pleasing all-day menu and $1 cinnamon doughnuts batched and dispensed throughout the day, it’s really no surprise that new arrival Easy Tiger is already a hit with locals. Yet to check it out? Let us give you a rundown on the newest kid on the Burleigh block.
Easy Tiger first opened in December 2019 as a hole-in-the-wall coffee nook, tucked in beside the service station at the front of the Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade. Given its location in of the busiest beachside hubs on the coast, the Easy Tiger team were quickly met with demand for breakfast, lunch and in-between snacks – things that stretched well beyond their initial offering of takeaway coffee, treats and on-the-go bites. Much to the delight of locals, Easy Tiger has now expanded into the vacant space next door (originally The Bluff, more recently home to Forty Two Twenty cafe), and just last week revealed a new 50-seat space and a menu that covers everything from morning bites to hearty lunches and afternoon pick-me-ups.
Easy Tiger’s quick-yet-organic growth was a no-brainer for its owners, seasoned hospitality lads Rob Moorwood (an original part-owner of Justin Lane) and chef Nick James (ex Rockpool Bar & Grill and Cutler & Co). With its core component (coffee) covered off by boutique Sydney roaster Sample, the duo have developed a concise menu of all-day eats to accompany the brews, dished up daily from 5:00 am. The menu touches on simple plates like eggs on sourdough toast, and bacon-and-egg rolls with smoked-potato aioli, as well as heartier breakfast dishes like the crowd-favourite Hash Benny and the eye-catching hot smoked-salmon bowl with housemade hash, chilli and garlic kale, capers and poached eggs. Got a sweet tooth? The gluten-free ricotta hotcakes with lemon, banana and a blueberry compote will be right up your alley. For more lunch-style fare, there’s lemongrass satay bowls (either crispy tofu or chicken tenders) with coconut sambal, green-themed falafel bowls, and two burgers – an American-style Angus beef with all of the trimmings, and a buttermilk fried-chicken burger featuring pickles and spicy aioli, both served with a fistful of seasoned fries.
Hot tip – if there are $1 cinnamon doughnuts on the counter when you’re there, you should absolutely get one (or ten).
