Easy Street Diner opens in Mermaid Beach
Pull up a booth at the Gold Coast’s newest eatery, Easy Street Diner on the Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach. The restaurant officially opens today after a couple of trial runs for family and a few lucky instagramers.
Hip-hop beats resonate through the narrow New York-style diner that is lined on one side with Seinfeld-esque booths. Easy Street Diner offers casual vibes, cool tunes, craft beers and some classic-American nosh. The menu contains everything you would hope from an American eatery, Fried Chicken, Mac n Cheese and some delectable burgers including the house special Cheeseburger Royale that is about as simple and delicious as a burger can get. The humble offering is a manifestation of co-owner and chef Lucas’ approach to food, which is as fuss-free as the decor. There is no unnecessary pomp at Easy Street, just good, honest comfort food with real flavour. Here, the napkin is a necessity but the cutlery is optional, as the menu kindly advises. If it’s your first encounter with American food, go the whole hog and get the Chick n Waffles that contains delightfully-crispy southern tenders stacked upon fresh Belgian waffles that are made in-house and served with whipped butter and maple syrup. If you’ve got room for dessert, give the Pumpkin Pie a whirl, it’s about as American as the Statue of Liberty.
If a cheeky snifter is on the cards, there’s a good selection of craft beers on tap including Stone & Wood’s Pacific Ale and Fortitude Brewing Company as well as a couple of summery cocktails including a Cajun Lemonade and Apple and Whisky.
If comfortable low-key vibes, cool tunes and amazing food is your thing then you’ll love the cut of Easy Street’s jib. While this is their first full-time offering, the owners, Lucas and Erin used to run Nola that would pop up at Blackboard Coffee in Varsity Lakes of an evening so they’re no rookies to the restaurant game.
