Australia’s first dedicated mid-strength distillery East Pole is crafting luscious botanical libations
We love a classic G&T, but sometimes we can’t throw back a full-strength spirit, whether that’s because we are deso, enjoying a cheeky work lunch or we’re just wanting to drink a little less. The answer to overcoming this obstacle comes in the form of East Pole, Australia’s first dedicated mid-strength distillery. With two botanical-laced sips in its lip-smacking line-up, this is one boozemaker worth trying.
Crafted in Melbourne using homegrown botanicals, East Pole captures the flavour of full-strength gin, but with just 22.3-percent ABV, which means there’s no watering down necessary. There are two full-flavoured, mid-strength gins to choose from – Classic Dry and Pink Grapefruit. The Classic Dry gin puts a twist on the classic style by mixing juniper, liquorice and whole lemon and coriander seeds. The Pink Grapefruit gin takes the citrus flavour up a notch by combining pink grapefruit, sea salt and a hint of strawberry gum. Complete your tipple with a tonic and a wedge of fresh citrus and voila, Friday night is sorted!
East Pole’s Classic Dry and Pink Grapefruit gins are available now online for $65 for a 700-ml bottle. Two other flavours will join the mix soon, including Kakadu Plum and Desert Lime. The former is distilled with Kakadu plum, mango, coconut and lemon myrtle while the latter is created using desert lime, turmeric, ginger and liquorice for a bit of spice.
