New cafe Dulcie & Edna brings specialty coffee and top-notch eats to Banora Point

Friends, let us introduce you to Dulcie & Edna – the southern end’s newest coffee and brunch hang. Tucked in the pocket of Banora Point, owners Matthew Schnitzerling (formerly of Burleigh Baker) and Nate Bultitude have set out to inject a much-needed dose of specialty coffee, quality eats and housemade treats into the Tweed region, while at the same time giving a heartfelt nod to their grandmothers, Dulcie and Edna.

One step inside and you’ll fall in love with the old-meets-new aesthetic, which combines features like eye-popping retro wallpaper and an enviable mid-century buffet console, with more modern fixtures like sleek timber tables, booth seating and granite countertops. Just like its fit-out, Dulcie & Edna’s overall vibe and food offering aims to strike an effortless balance of nostalgia and modernity. Kind of like if you took all of your Grandmother’s coolest homewares and plants, borrowed (stole) her most delicious recipes, combined it with some top-notch specialty coffee, and served it all up to caffeine-seeking, brunch-loving locals.

Dulcie & Edna’s all-day menu aims to please the crowds – want eggs on toast? Sure. Keen for a breakfast burger with a hash brown instead of bacon? Go for it. How about a fried chicken burger with onion rings, slaw, cheese and a pickle on top? Or a crumbed-fish sandwich with crisp iceberg, tomato, pickles and tartare? It’s all there, alongside the likes of nourishing pumpkin and chickpea falafel bowls with kraut and sprouts, broccoli and potato hash with green sauce and poached eggs, and fruit toast topped with cherry jam, berries and ricotta. However you roll, be sure to enjoy it with a brew by Brisbane’s Parallel Roasters on the side. There’s also a cabinet full of homemade cakes and slices to indulge in, along with croissants and loaves of daily bread from Burleigh Baker to take home.
