Innovative new sweets den The Doughnut Affair to open in Mermaid Beach
For the past few months, peering eyes have been watching the construction activity on the rear part of the building that houses Asian eatery and bar FuFu in Mermaid Beach. Well, we can now reveal the news that FuFu is about to get a sweet new neighbour – a high-end doughnut dealer that goes by the name The Doughnut Affair. Here’s what you need to know.
First up – we’ve had a peek at the opening menu on offer at The Doughnut Affair’s flagship Gold Coast venue and we can tell you that these are not your regular doughnuts. Far from it, actually. The Doughnut Affair will feature enticing creations, unexpected combinations and novel textures – all prepared on site by a team of talented doughnut creators.
The flavours will range from a simple classic American doughnut through to next-level combinations like champagne and strawberries, and the intriguing bacon-topped Byron Berkshire doughnut. The Doughnut Affair’s founder Kurt Lehndorf will also be collaborating with local restaurants, producers and suppliers to release limited-edition doughnut flavours, which we’re told will ‘push the envelope as to what a doughnut can actually become’. Specialty coffee will also play a big part (doughnuts and coffee – name a more iconic duo) with The Doughnut Affair to be the first venue in Queensland to pour brews by Melbourne roaster Code Black.
