When you think of salad, does your mind immediately picture bowls filled with way too much lettuce, a couple of slices of cucumber and a scattering of cherry tomatoes thrown on top? If so, you need to be reeducated on how flavoursome and delicious salads can be, providing they have the right ingredients, of course. Leading the charge is Mermaid’s popular salad slinger Dalas Kitchen, which has been delighting diners with its colourful array of mixed salads, homemade sodas and sweet treats for almost a year. Now, the health-conscious crew has opened a second outpost, this time swapping bricks-and-mortar for a shipping container perched at Pavilions Palm Beach. If you’re fond of bowls brimming with health and happiness, lettuce get acquainted …

Opening just in time for peak salad season, Dalas Kitchen has brought its array of vibrant summer nosh south to Palm Beach. Promising to be love at first bite, Dalas Kitchen delivers a mouth-watering line-up of six core creations, including ‘So Satays-fying’, a creamy potato-based salad called ‘Fresh Tots’, the Kristmas Kale’ and the flavourful ‘Za’ Carrots’. If you can handle a little heat, the ‘Bangin’ Cauli’ (panko-crusted cauliflower, Asian slaw, mint, coriander, shallots, crushed peanuts, drizzled with creamy maple Sriracha dressing) has a spicy kick. Best of all, you can mix and match, with three different sizes on offer. Dalas Kitchen’s range is also predominantly vegan-friendly, gluten-free and made using locally sourced produce.

Dalas Kitchen is the work of Michael and Jess Davies, who noticed a lack of takeaway and lunch options that were outside of your usual suspects. The salads will be prepped at the Nobby’s home base and delivered to Palm Beach twice daily, so you can be sure it’s as fresh as can be. If all that health has left you feeling a touch parched, Dalas Kitchen is also offering a refreshing selection of homemade sodas, which will be served as slushies, alongside cold-brew coffee from Two Amigos and kombucha. There is also a range of guilt-free treats made by Nourishing by Sally that promise to kick your 3:30 pm cravings to the curb without loading up on artificial sweeteners. As if that’s not reason enough to ditch your sad desk lunch, Michael and Jess are also passionate about being a waste-free business, teaming up with Seed The Ground (The Miami Compost Hub) in a bid to lighten the kitchen’s footprint and turn food scraps into nutrient-dense soil. The venue’s packaging, labels and serving ware are also, of course, compostable. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, Dalas is salad backwards.
