Salad, sodas and sweet treats – say hello to Nobby Beach newcomer Dalas Kitchen
Have you ever noticed that when it comes to midday meals, taste and timeliness tend to come at the expense of nutrition? If you’re not one to compromise (hello, friend), then go ahead and get excited for the arrival of Dalas Kitchen in Nobby Beach. It’s here to prove once and for all, that you do, in fact, make friends with salad.
When Michael and Jess Davies met, they were both working in Brisbane, where fresh, healthy and affordable lunches are in abundant supply. Upon returning home to the Gold Coast, the husband-and-wife duo noticed a distinct lack of grab-and-go bites that were outside of the usual suspects – sushi or burgers. Dalas Kitchen was created to fill that very void with a vibrant array of freshly made salads dispensed from its light and bright new nook on the Gold Coast Highway in Nobby Beach. The mouth-watering line-up features a core range of seven different selections, which have been a solid year in the making, testing and tweaking recipes from their home kitchen. You can mix and match, with three different sizes on offer. If you can handle a little heat, the Bangin’ Cauli (panko-crusted cauliflower, Asian slaw, mint, coriander, shallots, crushed peanuts, drizzled with creamy maple Sriracha dressing) has a spicy kick, while The Mexican (roasted sweet potato, red capsicum, black beans, white beans, chargrilled corn, coriander with a creamy citrus Mexican dressing), is best served with crushed corn chips. Dalas Kitchen’s range is 100-percent meat-free but is also predominantly vegan-friendly, gluten-free and made using locally sourced produce.
If all that health has left you feeling a touch parched, you’re in luck as Dalas Kitchen is also slinging a refreshing selection of five homemade sodas to wash it down. Those with a bit of a sweet tooth may also be pleased to know that there is a range of guilt-free treats made locally by Nic Dimond that promise to kick your 3:30 pm cravings to the curb without loading up on artificial sweeteners. As if that’s not reason enough to ditch your sad desk lunch, Michael and Jess are also passionate about being a waste-free business and have teamed up with Seed The Ground (The Miami Compost Hub) in a bid to lighten the kitchen’s footprint and turn food scraps into nutrient-dense soil. The venue’s packaging, labels and serving-ware are also, of course, compostable. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, Dalas is salad backwards. Keen for Dalas at home?
