Coffee, cake and cat cuddles at Crazy Cat Cafe in Surfers Paradise

Form an orderly line cat ladies and gents, the Gold Coast’s very first cat cafe has opened in Surfers Paradise! If the combination of cats, cake and coffee tickles your fancy, you’d best get in quick to book a session at Crazy Cat Cafe, the venue’s first weekend completely booked out.

Located on level one of the Centre Arcade (near Black Coffee Lyrics), Crazy Cat Cafe is buzzing with cats and customers from Thursday through to Sunday and invites you to cuddle up with a super affectionate Maine Coon named George, get a game going with a couple of rambunctious Ragdolls named Bonnie and Clyde (if you can catch them) and meet a Munchkin named Verne. All up, there are 11 resident felines to fuss over and while they are all super friendly, not all of them love being picked up so take a moment to peruse their profiles on the wall.

Crazy Cat Cafe is the handiwork of Neil McIntosh and Jackie Moureau who were inspired by a trip to a cat cafe in Edinburgh. Despite Neil’s severe allergy to cats, the pair instantly fell in love with the concept and the rest, as they say, is history. Before you head into the cuddle zone, grab a takeaway cup of Org double certified organic coffee and a little something sweet or savoury from the cabinet. Entry to the cat cafe is $12.50 per hour (local price) and bookings are essential. Even if you aren’t keen to get up close and personal with the felines, you can enjoy a cuppa from the cafe and watch the cats from the outside.
