Cirkul brings European flair and industrial vibes to Burleigh

Attention foodie folk – another hidden gem has opened in Burleigh. Sleek new establishment Cirkul is bringing a unique European flair to the beachside, with the industrial-style venue lighting up the dining strip that is emerging beneath the Ambience towers.

Owners Josh Kulari and Raffaele Cirillo have harnessed years of working across Europe to create the new dining space, which brings together elements of both share food and traditional plates to create an all-encompassing menu. The fit-out is impressive, highlighted by exposed brick, walls of live greenery and rustic iron-clad sleepers suspended from the roof. The industrial pendant lights create a warmth by both day and night – you can sit inside for a cosy modern warehouse feel, or enjoy footpath dining outside and bask in the sea air. Whilst dinners are the main jam for the new Burleigh space, a light and fresh lunch menu is served daily and a traditional European breakfast menu is rolled out on weekends.

The lads have brought together an extensive range dishes with various European influences. Start with the whipped goats cheese tart with confit shallot and Spanish olives or the proper steak tartare, which is peppered in the traditional French style and topped with a fried quail egg and fennel crostini. There is a unique spin on traditional gnocchi – here it’s served pan fried with pesto, roast pumpkin, salsa, toasted hazelnuts and goats curd. The crusted veal chop, served with chef Raffaele’s famous pepperonata atop creamy polenta and cime di rapa (turnip tips) in garlic and chilli, makes for a sumptuous main course. Soak up the European vibes with the German mixed-grill plate, complete with baby bratwurst and sauerkraut, or keep it a little lighter with the crispy-skin barramundi with smashed lemony cannellini beans. There is a hint of Munich across the bar menu, with traditional cocktails like Hugo, which is a fusion of elderflower, prosecco, soda, mint and lime, and the Black Forest Bramble with gin, lemon and black raspberry liqueur.
