Hold on to your sombreros – Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner! If you’re unfamiliar with the occasion, Cinco de Mayo is a tequila-soaked feast that ignites the senses with mariachi music, a kaleidoscope of colourful outfits and, of course, an abundance of tacos, nachos, enchiladas and more. If this sounds right up your alley, then get excited because The Star Gold Coast is hosting some seriously fun Cinco de Mayo celebrations from May 1–31.

Held on May 5, Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration that commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Closer to home, it’s become known as a tequila-filled fiesta that provides an opportunity to truly let your hair down and dive into a colourful Mexican feast. The Star’s month-long Cinco de Mayo celebrations will be no exception, boasting a two-hour cocktail making masterclass at Veladora, as well as a clutch of Mexican-inspired Herradura cocktails at The Star’s sipping much-loved spots. Indulge in Japanese margaritas at Kiyomi, tantalise your taste buds with frozen margaritas at Atrium Bar, sip the famed Millionaires Margarita at Cherry and delight in a coconut-chilli margarita at Garden Kitchen & Bar. To keep the festivities going, a live mariachi band will roam the grand foyer and Garden Kitchen & Bar from 7:00 pm during the celebrations.

Those feeling extra adventurous can unleash their inner mixologist and head to secret bar Veladora (hint, you need to find the red palm tree) for a two-hour cocktail making masterclass on Friday May 5. Throughout the session, host and Herradura Tequila brand ambassador Carmen Hartwich will explain why tequila has become the fastest growing spirit in Australia while you hone your skills making some tasty tequila tipples. Between mastering the mighty margarita and perfecting your own Paloma, a selection of salivation-inducing snacks like empanadas and corn chips with guacamole will fill your belly. Tickets to this spicy soiree are $79 per person plus booking fee, and they’re strictly limited so we suggest you hotfoot it to the Eventbrite website to grab yours.
