The round-up: the best places for cheap eats on the Gold Coast, as voted by locals!
You know those times when you have nothing in the fridge that’s appetising (we’re looking at you, two-day-old salad), your stomach is rumbling, and you really just want to eat out with your mates but funds are tight and pay day isn’t until the end of the week? This list is to get you though those times. As part of the EAT/drink Awards 2019, we asked locals to nominate and vote for their favourite places for a budget-friendly feed. So, thanks to the many thousands of locals that voted, here are some of the top spots for cheap eats across the Gold Coast.
The Winner: Miami Marketta
Every Wednesday, Friday Saturday night, Miami Marketta is a brimming with local folk, each taking their time to wander through the laneway of international market-style eats before filling up on plates full of delicious, wallet-friendly plates that hover around the $10–15 mark. Miami Marketta is where you’ll find some of the city’s best cheap eats under one roof – and with everything from dumplings and Greek souvlaki to Japanese noodles and burgers, you’ll have no troubles finding something you like.
The Runner-Up: Aprés Surf, Mermaid Beach
Ice-cold beers, a fun neighbourhood vibe and tasty cheap eats are what Aprés Surf is all about. The Mermaid Beach hang nabbed a hefty portion of the votes from locals, who clearly can’t get enough of the Apres specials – think $12.50 burgers on Wednesdays to $15 parmys on Sundays and more. The Runner-Up: Burgster, Palm Beach
Armed with a delicious selection of burgers and bar bites, this Palm Beach burger joint is a firm favourite among southern folk. Cheeseburger Monday at Burgster is a must-do ($5 cheeseburgers, $10 double cheeseburgers, $15 triples), as is its ‘oyster happy hour’ on Friday afternoons – $1 natural and $2 tempura oysters until sold out. You’ll always have plenty of cash leftover for beers here. Hit the Burgster website for all of the deal details.
Fuku Japanese, Broadbeach
If you haven’t had a $10 plate of chicken teriyaki with rice and salad from Fuku, then you really haven’t lived. Nestled within the Niecon Plaza in Broadbeach, this longstanding Japanese gem has been dishing up tasty cheap eats for as long as we can remember. There’s also karaage, tonkatsu, yaki udon noodles, soups, fried rice and more – but the chicken teriyaki is a must-try.
Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Burleigh Heads
Tacos, burgers, nachos, burritos and beer – Wahoo’s has it all, and it’s all insanely cheap. Locals have been flocking here since 2002 knowing they can easily get a mammoth feed for around the $10 mark. Keep an eye out for regular specials on the chalk board, like a burger and a beer for just ten bones.
