Miami Marketta swings open the doors to its new botanical hub, The Gin Parlour & Infusion Bar

While gin has long been shaken, stirred and poured behind bars (thanks mainly to martinis and negronis), the juniper-heavy spirit now well and truly stands on its own two feet as the tipple of choice for many discerning swillers. This Thursday September 20, the coast's newest dedicated gin bar – The Gin Parlour & Infusion Bar at Miami Marketta – will officially open to the public, bringing with it more than 90 small-batch gins for your sipping pleasure. more

Old Tom merges top-notch gin with fine dining in the heart of Broadbeach

Back in the prohibition era of the 1920s, public houses in the United Kingdom would put carvings of tomcats outside the establishments – members would see the statues, then sneakily put money in a secret slot and they'd get a stash of gin in return. Fast forward nearly 100 years and this crafty concept has inspired the Gold Coast's first gin bar and newest fine-dining destination. It goes by the name of Old Tom and it officially opens in Broadbeach today, Thursday November 23. more

Cocktails, rock music and neon lights – alleyway bar Nightjar opens in Burleigh Heads

Until recently, us local folk never really had much reason to venture into the Justin's Lane alleyway in Burleigh Heads. In fact, you'll be forgiven if you didn't actually know where it was – it's just bunch of car parks, bins and rear entrances to shops. Now, though, it's a totally different story. Earlier this year the elusive alleyway welcomed speakeasy bar Lockwood, and this Friday October 6, the (roller)door to the precinct's second hidden bar, Nightjar, will open. It's not easy to spot, but follow your ears to the rock ballads and you'll come across it soon enough.  more

The coast’s newest whisky bar The Scottish Prince sets sail in Palm Beach

About 800 metres off the Southport Spit lies the shipwreck of The Scottish Prince. In 1887 it ran aground (and some poor captain probably lost his job) carrying whisky, ales and Singer sewing machines. Fast forward about 130 years, and this infamous vessel, which remains in place as a popular dive site, has steered its way back to life in the form of the coast's newest whisky bar and eatery – The Scottish Prince. It's the latest venture by the fellas from The Cambus Wallace, and it's safe to say this is one whisky-fuelled hangout that you'll definitely want to explore. more
