Mountains of shoe-sting fries topped with melted cheese, home-style pinto beans, jalapeno aioli, guacamole and salsa fresca emerge on a continuous loop out of the kitchen. The house-special California Fries is just one of the new additions to the California Tacos menu that also includes an El Pescador Burrito that is inspired by the gent’s famous fish taco. The new burrito is packed-full of the house’s signature mango and pineapple salsa, baja aioli, Mexican red rice, melted cheese, cabbage and salsa fresca with a squeeze of fresh lime. The monster-burrito promises to demolish post-surf hunger.

For locals and travellers in the know, California Tacos has become a local institution of sorts. Californian owned and operated by Andy and Ty, the nosh is deliciously prepared for Australian tastes whilst being completely authentic to its origins, hence the reason you won’t find lettuce filling the tacos. Or hard-shell tacos for that matter. California Tacos is not your standard Mexican affair, absolutely everything that graces the plate is made fresh onsite, much to the torment of chef Andy who arrives at 6:30 am to make the tortillas. Even the salsa fresca is made from a recipe that has been passed down through three generations to finally make it to our shores.

Beyond delicious, authentic Mexican food, California Tacos can now also fulfil your caffeine craving following the opening of Frankie Espresso this week. Frankie Espresso will operate from the premises from 8:00 am to noon and serve up gluten-free nibbles and coffee.
