When it comes to dining out on the Gold Coast, we’re spoilt for choice. So much so, that we often find ourselves plagued with indecision when it comes to that all-important question of where to go. Add into the mix a couple of varying dietary requirements and you’ve got yourself quite the conundrum. If you’re in the mood for something new, something exciting, something different – say hello to Butlers Tea Room + Noshery.

The term people-pleaser tends to invoke negative connotations, in the case of Butlers Tea Room + Noshery, however, it’s a beautiful thing. Envisioned by a trio of long-time pals Ashe Hornsby, Eden Gall and Daniel Chen, the intention was to create a space that can be all things to all people – whether you fancy a quick break to caffeinate, a margarita and a double cheesey at 10:00 am or something in between. Having only opened in Burleigh Heads’ Home+Life centre a couple of weeks ago, Butlers has been met with an enthusiastic reception. And one peek at the venue’s magnificent interior, and you’ll appreciate why. Ashe and Eden, who both have backgrounds in construction and design have taken the reins to create the venue’s eclectic aesthetic, which is designed to transport diners far, far away from the Australian coastline. Floral-adorned bench seating frames the perimeter, while a scattering of marble-topped tables fill the aisle. Striking emerald green paired with brushed gold, rustic timbers and gorgeous French-style windows adorned with greenery create a eye-popping backdrop that is unlike anything the Gold Coast has seen before.

Daniel has crafted Butlers’ culinary offering, digging deep into his 20 year-cheffing career to deliver a creative menu that puts a contemporary spin on classics. Extending far beyond the standard breakfast/brunch/lunch options, Butlers has upped the ante with an all-day menu that meanders from light bites of avocado sourdough and spanner-crab omelette through to fully loaded burritos, a substantial lamb press built upon slabs of toasted schiacciata topped with 12-hour lamb shoulder, pickled onions, shoestring fries (yes, you read right), rocket and lashings of chipotle mayo. When it comes to the drinks, Butlers really differentiates itself from the norm. If you’re a non-coffee drinker, catching up with friends ‘for coffee’ can often mean you are faced with a choice between a couple of sad supermarket-standard teas or juice. Not here. Butlers’ range of drinks rivals the fare, with a palate-pleasing selection of Tavalon teas, iced-teas which can be spiked with gin, vodka, tequila or Bacardi, cold-pressed juices, smoothies and loaded milkshakes. While some venues take a churn-and-burn approach, Butlers is the kind of place you can kick back and linger a little longer. There’s live music on Thursday from 4:30 pm.
