Having managed a pizza shop in Byron Bay for the last half-decade, it’s fair to say Ruben Gomez knows a thing or two about making pizza, from the delightfully crispy base up. He has put his finely tuned skills to work and partnered with his brother Arnoldo and father Carlos to open Buena Vista Pizzeria & Cafe at Kirra. The carefully curated menu ranges from traditional toppings through to more curious creations including The Mexican’t; a slather of salsa, jalapeños, chorizo, tomato, beef and a dollop of thick sour cream, and the Carbonara; a tasty combination of chicken, onion, egg, bacon, mushroom and garlic. For seafood lovers, it’s hard to go past the Deep Deep Blue, which is topped with locally sourced prawns and mussels.

The emphasis at Buena Vista is on quality ingredients with the meat and produce all sourced fresh and as locally as possible while the bases are handmade from scratch. Sensitivities to gluten are accommodated with ease and there is actually a decent selection of meat-free pizzas beyond the regular vegetarian supreme.
