Bubbles, beauty and bites collide at Southport’s new sipping spot Boudoir Lounge
For those of us with hair prone to frizziness (hello, that’s us), socialising on hot days and humid nights is just not ideal. Though, if you plan a night out at the coast’s newest bar and dining space, Boudoir Lounge, you need not worry about frizzy locks or melted makeup – you can just get a touch up while you’re there. The new sipping spot, which opened its doors in Southport’s Como Crescent precinct (near Sundale Bridge) last weekend, has one unique addition that sets it apart from other venues – its own beauty salon.
While it identifies as a bar and dining space, Boudoir Lounge effortlessly weaves in a pampering element to its food-and-drink offering, with a separate beauty lounge (complete with forgiving mirrors, plush swivel chairs and a trained beautician) located at the rear of the venue. So, not only can you sip martinis and snack on sashimi, both ladies and gents can also get their nails done, hair styled or brows perfected, all under the one roof. The unique bar-meets-beauty-salon concept is the brainchild of local businessman Harvey Gebara, who set out to create a space that ‘combines self care with leisure’.
There are no real rules as such – if you’re going there for cocktails and want your makeup touched up, you can. Or book in for a midday manicure and stick around for bubbles and a long lunch. Got dinner planned elsewhere? You can head to Boudoir Lounge to get your hair styled, enjoy a margarita in the chair, then be on your merry way. If you don’t need or care for pampering, just enjoy the space as a restaurant and bar, and head on in for drinks and snacks while the sun sets over the Broadwater.
In the kitchen, chef Tamara Zeppelini oversees Boudoir Lounge’s Mediterranean-style menu, which covers share plates, salads and mains. There’s smaller bites like housemade chickpea falafel with tomato and currant salsa, beetroot-cured salmon sashimi with za’atar-spiced fennel and pink-grapefruit pearls, and creamy hummus layered with Mediterranean-style minced beef, pine nuts and pita bread for dipping. As for the mains, you’ll be choosing from dishes like Greek chicken skewers with a smoky eggplant puree and seasoned sheep-milk yoghurt, charred octopus with fresh labneh, and baked market fish with tahini and smashed-chickpea salad. To finish – flaky baklava with Persian fairy floss.
