Mermaid Beach welcomes BonBon bar

Spurred by Bonita Bonita’s enduring popularity, BonBon bar has transformed the narrow space next door offering diners a fantastic option for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail.

Get your evening off to a splendid start with a Tequila Tea Party; hickory-smoked Espolon Reposado tequila with BonBon-made apple tea or perhaps a snifter of Rum Blazer; flamed Kraken rum, star anise, cinnamon quill and orange peel. In fact, with over 100 tequilas and mezcals to float your boat, BonBon bar has once again upped the ante on the Gold Coast’s tequila game. The new hole-in-the-wall bar delivers a much-needed extension for Bonita Bonita and offers a selection of the restaurant’s favourites alongside an inviting new assortment of swill and aperitivos (bar snacks). If cocktails aren’t for you, there’s a fine selection of cerveza (beer) to keep you hydrated including Brooklyn Larger and Little Creatures Pale Ale on tap.

If your hunger gets the better of you, pick at a plate or two of pork crackling with chilli jam crema, ceviche gazpacho slammers or beef cheek quesadilla while you wait for your table next door. Exposed concrete walls border the moodily lit venue while plants dangle effortlessly down from the ceiling. A massive portrait of Frida Kahlo takes pride of place on the far wall, a nod to the venue’s Mexican roots. Next time you’re heading to Bonita Bonita, make sure you leave ample time to partake in a beverage at BonBon bar. For contact information and opening times, see our Stumble Guide.
