Bumbles Cafe opens Blue House, a new sipping and snacking spot in Budds Beach
If you’ve ventured to Budds Beach, you’ve more than likely perched at Bumbles Cafe, the suburb’s seriously cute caffeination station and eatery. The venue has just gotten bigger – and a whole lot bluer – thanks to a new next-door addition. Say hello to Blue House, a picturesque cottage where you can while away a few hours with a cocktail in hand.
It’s a well-known fact that Bumbles Cafe is always pumping. Come weekends (and to be fair, a lot of weekdays), most of the tables are full with coffee-and-cake-loving regulars and Surfers Paradise locals. It was only a matter of time until the venue required expansion and so Bumbles’ owner Kate Madison decided to level up the iconic venue’s offering, or rather gift it a big and blue sister venue. After two years of careful renovation, the Blue House has finally opened to the public – and it’s oh-so beautiful. The perfect venue for catching up with mates over a long lunch and a quaint spot for sunset cocktails, this stunning newcomer looks out to the gorgeous Budds Beach waterfront. Although outside is as pretty as a picture, it’s what’s inside that is sure to catch your eyes. The interior is a mix of eclectic coastal aesthetic and quirky cottage fixtures. Wallpaper dotted with fish wraps the inside of the venue, which is filled with a scattering of pink-cushioned seats that closely edge the large, sun-dappled windows. The venue, which boasts numerous rooms, connects like a labyrinth back into Bumbles Cafe, so that guests can explore and enjoy both venues in one visit. Talk about two birds, one stone.
Blue House isn’t just a pretty face either. Its menu (which will change monthly) is sure to impress with a selection of tasty snacks and larger dinner plates. Diners can lap up small plates like smoked salmon with red pickled onion and creme fraiche, Moreton Bay bug rolls with baby-gem lettuce and sriracha sauce, peking duck pancakes and coconut prawns. Those meeting someone for a dinner date can dig into the likes of haloumi-crumbed chicken schnitzel with sweet potato, broccolini and pomegranate, grilled black-miso salmon with buckwheat noodle salad, pickled ginger and edamame or a belly-warming veal-and-pork lasagne. Pair your delicious feed with a cocktail and views of the beach for the ultimate sundowner session.
Blue House is now open Monday and Tuesday 6:30 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday through Sunday 6:30–10:00 pm. Head to our Stumble Guide for further information.
