Bird Royale brings finger-lickin’ chicken and a ‘chick’n collect’ window to Brickworks Ferry Rd
There’s something about the lure of fried chicken that beckons to us like a siren call to lonesome sailors. We’re powerless to resist it. If you too find yourself making detours via your fave chook nook, we have some cluckin’ excellent news – Brickworks Ferry Rd has welcomed Bird Royale, a charcoal chicken shop that’s here to elevate the dietary staple and satiate your starvation in the most delicious way possible. The succulent new chicken shop opened its doors late last week, here’s everything you need to know …
The humble rotisserie chicken has had a serious glow-up courtesy of Bird Royale. The venue is the latest from renowned hospitality identity Dave Galvin of SITE Hospitality, who is the mastermind behind CRAFTY’S Sports Bar at Harbour Town and the recently opened Italian eatery, MOZZZA MOZZA at Southport Sharks, which is already making a big impression on locals. The brand-new day-and-night venue is perched within Brickworks Ferry Rd and delivers a deliciously elevated take on the humble rotisserie chook with its charcoal chicken and a drool-inducing menu crafted by SITE Hospitality’s group executive chef, Nic Wood. As you may have deduced from the name, flavour-packed charcoal chicken is the hero at Bird Royale – the juicy chooks actually take the better part of three days to prepare as they are brined, dried and then cooked over a purpose-built charcoal chicken rotisserie, resulting in succulent (and highly addictive!) chickens with that unmistakable charcoal hit. The birds are available in your choice of spice rub – including the original house sumac seasoning or its signature miso and chilli spiced variety for a little added kick. If fried chicken is your Kryptonite, you’ve come to the right place. The fried morsels of happiness are available as boneless tenders, in a mixed box or just commit to the bucket, which comes a serve of hot sauce for dunkin’. Bird Royale also dishes up a handful of burgers and sandwiches that are made to order, including the venue’s specialty Super Fly roll, which is a generous helping of charcoal chicken smothered in gravy and a scattering of mozzarella, and the Royale with Cheese (a cheeky Pulp Fiction reference), stacked with crispy fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce, pineapple and aioli.
Now, let’s talk sides – at some places, the sides are somewhat of an afterthought, but that’s not the case at Bird Royale. Here the sides are so good they deserve their own moment. Pair your poultry with a fresh, wholesome salad that’s brimming with locally sourced ingredients, a moreish mac ‘n’ cheese, crisp roast potatoes, or keep it simple with a side of super-crispy chips. For those in a hurry, the Bird Royale’s grab-and-go cabinet will also be brimming with all-day snacks and quick eats, including fresh seasonal fruit salads, chia puddings with caramelised pineapple and coconut, a selection of breakfast wraps, roast chicken and salad rolls, and a Breakfast Health Bowl with brown rice, avocado, cucumber, braised greens, hemp seeds and a poached egg. Early birds can tuck in to a selection of breakfast sandwiches and snacks, from the bacon and egg sando and the vego-friendly egg muffin (scrambled egg, braised spinach and hollandaise on an English muffin) and little cluckers are also well catered for with a dedicated kids’ menu. Thirsty? There’s filter and cold-brew coffee by popular Melbourne roaster ST. ALi alongside house-made iced tea in rotating flavours, cold-pressed juices by The Fix, Liberty kombuchas, soft drinks and non-alcoholic beers by UPFLOW Brewing Co.
Bird Royale will operate seven days a week from 7:00 am. The main shop inside the centre will open until 5:00 pm daily, then the kerbside roller door opens for ‘cluck’n collect’ until 8:00 pm. The kerbside takeaway service can be pre-ordered or just roll in and order. Do you feel like chicken tonight? Fly over to our Stumble Guide for additional details.
