Kirra welcomes pop-up restaurant Betty Wilson’s Dining Room

Local foodies looking for a unique culinary experience will want to snap up a seat at Betty Wilson’s Dining Room, the coast’s newest pop-up restaurant. Former QT Gold Coast chef Jason Atwal is behind the venture, which sees him take over popular Kirra cafe Zephyr Coffee and transform it into an exclusive 12-seat dining space by night.

Fresh from a stint cooking for a Sumatran surf school, Jason Atwal is back to bring his passion for seafood and experimental techniques to the Gold Coast with his new pop-up dining den, which he has named after his late grandmother, Betty Wilson. Aiming to deliver refined dishes in an intimate and very relaxed setting, Jason will utilise Zephyr Coffee’s space after hours to craft an eight-course shared menu around the best local ingredients. The pop-up restaurant’s sittings, which are offered on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, are limited to 12 people and must be booked in advance.

The menu at Betty Wilson’s Dining Room will rotate regularly, but expect dishes like nam jim-spiced prawns and a fresh herbed vermicelli salad encased in a fried prawn cracker, and a fresh local heirloom tomato salad with basket made from Burringbar Romano cheese. For dessert, think sweet eats like mint slice waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Seats are $88 per person, and it’s BYO so you can even bring a few of your favourite drops. Bookings and pre-payment is essential – phone 0432 609 454 or email [email protected] to book.
