Few things come close to the satisfaction you get from indulging your sweet tooth. Whether you’re a loud and proud sugar fiend (hello, that’s us) or a behind-the-closet sweets lover, you’ll want to make tracks to the coast’s newest diet-busting hot spot, Baked.

For dessert queen Tamar Gagie, sugar is life. It was two-and-a-half years ago when the talented artist decided to whip together her creative skills with her passion for sweets to start her own custom-made cake business called Baked – and her mind-blowing creations quickly became a popular go-to for people chasing occasion cakes and sweets. Spurred by this sugar-fuelled demand and a subsequent need for more space, the self-titled ‘cake dealer’ decided to open Baked’s first bricks-and-mortar location, with the doors to the new sweets hub and cafe recently opening on Lae Drive in Runaway Bay. While made-to-order cakes are still the core of Baked, the new standalone space has allowed Tamar to offer customers bite-sized versions of all of her signature creations, along with Di Della coffee and a soon-to-launch menu of savoury eats.

The Baked cabinet is brimming daily with too-pretty-to-eat mini cakes, intricately decorated cupcakes, decadent whoopie cookies and intriguing creations like dessert burgers (an assembly of sponge cake and coloured icing to resemble a cheeseburger) and slices of white-chocolate mud-cake pizza. Prepare to salivate over eye-popping offerings from techni-coloured bubble-gum flavoured cupcakes to the ‘funfetti’ vanilla-bean mini spongecakes with sprinkles, citrus-coconut tiered cakes with candied lemon, and rich chocolate mud cakes with almond praline. Also in the line-up are daily doughnuts supplied by the lads at D Point Ten, while those watching their sugar intake can opt for raw cakes and slices from Nourishing by Sally Robbie.
