Worship the god of wine at Bacchus House in Surfers Paradise
One of Queensland’s oldest known watering holes, the former Vintage Velvet (and Swingin’ Safari) in Surfers Paradise has been given a new lease on life as Bacchus House. The new venue pays homage to the god of wine and frivolity.
A throwback to a time when ladies in fancy frocks gathered outdoors to drink champagne in the sunshine, Bacchus House is bringing back the good ol’ fashioned garden party. Freshly painted white timber settings decorate the ever-lush lawn, providing the perfect backdrop to while away an afternoon with bite-sized morsels and fruity cocktails, while inside, the venue offers a range of seating areas, from comfy lounges to long dining tables for more sophisticated soirees.
Rumoured to be one of the first known wine bars in Queensland, the iconic venue was originally known as Bacchus Lounge and has witnessed some incredible changes during its colourful life. The new venue is a nod to its past with a fresh, modern approach to dining. Designed to bring people together, Bacchus House offers a range of share plates and cocktails by the jug. Sip on a carafe of Aperol Spritz as you slowly make your way through plates of seared scallops, crispy honey soy pork belly and mushroom arancini. As its name suggests, wine is also a big focus with a stunning selection to ponder. Dan Thompson, the venue’s new owner, has big plans for cultural celebrations, outdoor cinemas and film festivals so keep your eyes peeled.
