Aviary Rooftop Bar takes diners from Bologna to the Amalfi Coast with its new regional-Italian menu

We’ve all had the occasional daydream where we’re travelling across Italy sipping wine and eating glorious handmade pizzas – and then the phone rings and we quickly snap back to reality. If it doesn’t look like you’ll be jetting off to the Amalfi Coast any time soon (did you put your Lotto ticket in?), then sampling the new regional Italian menu at Aviary Rooftop Bar will satisfy your wandering mind.

Dream-worthy havens like the lively streets of Bologna and the picture-perfect landscapes of Tuscany are the inspiration behind Aviary Rooftop Bar’s new menu, designed by chef de partie Stephano Rullo (a true pizza wizard) to take us all on a delicious trip throughout Italy. Order a negroni and start with the colourful caprese salad with prosciutto or the gluten-free eggplant marinara with oozing mozzarella, before turning your attention to the authentic regional Italian pizza offering.

Mortadella lovers (we absolutely fall under this category) will want to get acquainted with the Blissful Bologna pizza, a mouth-watering combination of mortadella, smoked mozzarella, burrata and pistachio – traditional, hand-made and cooked to perfection. The menu takes a lean toward to the coastline with the Amalfi Coast pizza, which sees Aviary’s signature hand-leavened base topped with ricotta, zucchini blossom, white anchovies, semi-dried tomatoes and lemon-infused olive oil. You can escape to central Italy with the Taste of Tuscany (pancetta, asparagus, wild mushroom and mozzarella) or live on the edge with the Don Capo (Sambuca-spiked pulled pork, roast potato, bacon, fennel and artichoke puree). There’s also the Truffled Vegan pizza for the plant-based eaters and curious carnivores – it involves truffle tapenade, roasted cauliflower, wild mushrooms, vegan mozzarella and hazelnuts. To finish? A Nutella calzone to share (or not) sprinkled with coconut chips and fresh berries.
