Illnesses in the Solomon Islands abound because of chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus, diseases of the respiratory system including influenza and pneumonia, traumatic brain injury and musculoskeletal injury. Many Solomon Islands patients do not seek medical services because of the lack of availability of health services and the relatively long distances for some islanders to get to hospital. A recent snap shot audit conducted by the Bond Physiotherapy Team demonstrated a large role for physiotherapy in the region including, but not limited to musculoskeletal injuries, paediatrics, neurological injury, cardiovascular disease and womens’ health/ obstetrics. This situation resonates with us and we are fundraising to help enable the CBRT to provide some of these services by raising $1000 through a Movie Night at Event Cinemas, raffles and sales of Bond Physiotherapy Hoodies. A list of equipment has been created in consultation with the KiraKira CBRT and we are endeavoring to source and supply as much of this equipment as possible from the funds raised. The equipment will accompany two physiotherapy students who are travelling to the Solomon Islands in July this year.
