Mother’s Day Classic
The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Our aim is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer.
The Gold Coast event will offer a 4 km and 8 km course, providing participants of any age options to walk or run the courses. On the day entertainment will include lot of activities for kids and adults, including warm-up aerobics, performers, food stands, free massage, plus a kids activity area with face painting and jumping castle.
Families, friends, colleagues, schoolmates, and corporate teams get into the spirit of the day with many sporting fancy dress and an abundance of pink. Many wear tribute cards dedicating their morning to loved ones who have been lost to or are currently fighting breast cancer. The festival atmosphere is also an opportunity to celebrate the life of survivors and enjoy a fun and healthy morning on Mother’s Day.
The Mother’s Day Classic was established and is organised by Women in Super – a national network of women working in the superannuation and finance industries. The initiative was inspired by the knowledge that research is gradually improving the survival rate of the one in nine women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85.
All proceeds from the Mother’s Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1998 the Mother’s Day Classic has raised $24.3 million dollars.
With a small team of only 7 office staff, the majority of people who help to put together the Mother’s Day Classic each year are volunteers predominantly from the Women in Super network.
The success of the Mother’s Day Classic is due to the hard work and commitment of volunteers across the country who are willing to work together and go the extra mile for a cause that affects so many lives – breast cancer.
