Meet the Senses at Robina Town Centre
It’s set to be a battle of the senses this September and October at Robina Town Centre, with a brand-new kid-friendly school holiday program taking Gold Coast families on an experiential, hands-on journey of the five human senses.
Popping up in Centre from Monday 24th September, Meet the Senses will encourage children to explore and embrace the weird and wonderful ways their senses work by smelling, tasting, seeing, touching and hearing their way through a series of free workshops.
Located in one convenient location outside Myer, families can kick-start their sensory adventures by collecting a Sense Pass at the activation, which will guide them to each of the five sense-sational stations.
Running from 10am – 1pm daily, the 10-day program is divided into five activation pods – each a nod to one of the five senses. Kids are encouraged to visit all five stations over the school holiday period and have their Sense Pass stamped to go into the draw to WIN a $250 Toymate voucher to share with their family.
First up, follow your nose to the Smell-A-Vision pod where participants will put their sense of smell to the test – spin a wheel and try to guess what scent each of the beakers is emitting – from cinnamon donuts to buttered popcorn and freshly cut grass, how sensitive is your sniffer?
Silent disco anyone? Next on the Meet the Senses expedition is a stop-off at the mini music bubble where young melodic maestros can engage their sense of hearing. The Sounds Like Fun pod will provide kids with a pair of special headphones to wear inside the Perspex disco dome, where they can free-style or follow the instructor in a feel-good dance-off.
If your youngsters love to get their hands dirty, a pit-stop at the Feelin’ Arty pod is a must. It’s here they will discover their sense of touch with hands-on workshops designed to inspire creativity. Playing with brightly coloured ‘magic sand’, children will touch, squeeze, mould and create shapes and sculptures.
It’s Taste Bud Time at the fourth pod in the senses-instalment – children will be equipped with everything they need to decorate their own personalised placemat, while also learning fun facts about their sense of taste. Instructors will then laminate their creations to take home and enjoy at meal times.
The final station, Kal-Eye-Do, will teach kids about their sense of sight through the lens of colour. Here, they will love creating their very own brightly coloured kaleidoscopes with supplied materials, after getting a dose of inspiration from the vivid patterns and shapes that appear in the real-life version.
Meet the Senses will run daily at Robina Town Centre from Monday 24th – Friday 28th September, and Monday 1st – Friday 5th October.
