Lembra De Casa’s Fundraiser to feed families at Christmas
Did you know that almost ten million Brazilians go for a full day (or more) without having anything to eat? Hunger is a sad reality and one that Emilie da Silva Stratford, founder of Lembra De Casa, had to do something about. In less than four weeks and with the support of an incredible team of volunteers, Lembra De Casa (translated to Remember Home) was born with the intention of raising $25,000 in donations that would lead to the purchase of food hampers in Brazil. To date, the charity has raised $28,000 AUD, equivalent to almost 110,000 Brazilian reais, which purchased 1,282 food baskets and transformed the Christmas of more than 5,000 people.
Now, they need your help. This Wednesday November 17, a bunch of Gold Coast-based eateries including Oi Izakaya, Costa Taco, Oak Berry, Finn Poke, Two Yolks and Hail Mary have pledged to donate 10 percent of profits to Lembra De Casa. That’s it! Simply rock up, fill your belly (and your heart) at one of the participating restaurants and pat yourself on the back knowing that 10 percent of the day’s proceeds will go to the charity and $25 will feed a family of four for two weeks. This year, Lembra De Casa is hoping to raise $50,000 to feed 2,000 families. If you can’t make it along but are still keen to show your support, you can donate here.
