Knife Sensei Workshop

Every knife is unique, each with a different profile. A good quality knife is one of the most important utensils for any experienced chef or humble home cook. Not only does it make cooking faster and easier, but a sharp knife also results in better looking and better tasting food.

Don’t let your blunt knives hold you back from achieving culinary greatness at home. Learn how to keep your knives sharp and ready for any cooking task at hand with Icon Cookery School’s Knife Sensei workshop on July 22.

Bring along your own knife to this class and learn from the Japanese master, Osamu Miyamoto from YUUSHIN 結心 – Japanese Kitchen Knives & Stones, on the art of Knife Blacksmithing. Osamu has been practicing the craft of sharpening knives since he was 10 years old, and now 30 years later is sharing his wealth of knowledge and skill with us.

This workshop includes a three-hour fun and interactive cooking class, lead by our professional chefs. For the first hour of this class, Osamu will not only take you on a journey through his knowledge of blade constructions and materials, but also guide you through the art of sharpening your knife on a whetstone.

Afterwards, our Icon chefs will take over the kitchen to teach you how to use your perfectly sharpened knife to master the technique of precision Sashimi and vegetable cuts. You’ll then turn your cuts into delicious Salmon Nigiri and tasty Tempura Vegetables, which you will enjoy with a glass of Saké around our dining table.

At Icon Cookery School, we teach individuals, couples and corporate groups to feel confident, inspired and excited about cooking! Our classes are designed to help modest home cooks and kitchen whiz’s alike to hone their cooking skills, master some fresh crowd-pleasers and reach their gastronomic potential, all under the guidance of Icon’s highly skilled (and patient) chefs.

Icon Cookery School is located within The Kitchens precinct, on the Eastern side of Robina Town Centre. Even though we are located on the top floor, to enter the premises please arrive from the ground floor via our exclusive stairs or lift opposite Mark Daniel’s Patisserie. There is ample public transport or free parking at Robina Town Centre, with the orange or purple carparks our recommendation for the best parking.

For this class you will be required to bring along a kitchen knife from home for sharpening.

Due to the nature of this class, numbers are limited to 8 people so get in quick. This is a class you do not want to miss!
