In the Name of Confucius

In the Name of Confucius

The award winning documentary In the Name of Confucius provides insight into China’s multi-billion dollar Confucius Institutes (CIs), a Chinese language program on foreign campuses, and the growing global controversies surrounding it – loss of academic integrity, violations of human rights codes, foreign influence, and even potential infringements on national security.

There are Confucius Institutes in 14 Australian universities and Confucius Classrooms in 67 Australian schools. The NSW Government is currently reviewing its Confucius Classrooms program due to concerns over inappropriate foreign government influence.

Since its first screening in 2016, In the Name of Confucius has won 10 international awards and nominations around the world. Audiences described the film as an eye-opener to a hidden truth and a timely reminder of an important issue – how we should deal with the unintended outcomes of our strengthening ties with a rising Communist China, as Beijing spends an estimated $10 billion annually on “external propaganda”, including the Confucius Institute initiative.

The screening will be followed by Q&A with Doris Liu – Director, Producer, Writer. Limited seating – book now!
