Gold Coast Film Festival 2018

Film buffs, assemble! The 16th annual Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF) is back from Tuesday April 17 to Sunday April 29 and bringing with it over 100 film and film-related events. The Festival will officially open with an extravagant red-carpet gala event kicking off a program catering to film enthusiasts, aspiring filmmakers and families alike. There will be premiere screenings of some of the latest feature films from around the world, boasting a combination of Australian indie gems, European dramas, fascinating features, engaging documentaries and intriguing American arthouse films. Short films will also have their time in the spotlight with Shorts in Paradise Festival (SIPFest) making a return to this year’s program. The famous event will transform iconic Surfers Paradise beach into a vibrant outdoor cinema on Sunday April 22 to screen a series of 10-minute cinematic masterpieces created by emerging filmmakers from around the country.

Avid film buffs will love the Movie and Music Trivia Night where they can put their film knowledge to the test, while the filmmakers of tomorrow will enjoy Future Filmmakers; a free seminar for Year 11 and 12 students presented by Bond University. The celebration of Queensland film will continue with the fourth annual Women in Film Luncheon, free family movies around the Gold Coast and the popular Movie Locations Tour, which is returning for a second year.

The prestigious Chauvel Award on Saturday April 21 will mark a significant night of the Gold Coast Film Festival. Hosted by Australian film critic and TV personality David Stratton, the industry award honours an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Australian screen industry, with the 2017 award presented to acclaimed Australian actor Deborah Mailman.
