Nori and knock offs – Yamagen puts a Japanese twist on Friday lunches
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate how great Fridays are. It’s the end of the working week (for most) and two days of sweet, sweet freedom are hot on our heels. There was a time when Friday lunches were all the rage on the Gold Coast – and we’re pretty delighted that this end-of-week dining tradition is back in the spotlight with a delicious twist thanks to the talented team at cutting-edge Japanese eatery, Yamagen.
If your idea of a Friday lunch involves going down to the nearest pub with your work pals, then think again. The new Yamagen Friday Lunch by Asahi is breathing new life into the concept of Friday lunches. So, forget those chewy rumps and fries from the local – instead you’ll start with salted edamame and thinly sliced truffle snapper with shio kombu.
Next you’ll stick your chopsticks into house-made wagyu beef gyoza with white-soy mustard, salt and pepper squid with wari ponzu, crispy-skin teriyaki chicken with warrigal greens and charcoal-toasted spring onions, as well as traditional miso soup and rice – and you can wash it all down with a shiraz, a pinot gris or an Asahi. The Yamagen Friday Lunch by Asahi is available every Friday from 12:00–3:00 pm, with the set menu (including a drink) priced at $49 … leaving plenty in the budget for a nip of hard-to-get Japanese whisky from the bar to finish.
