Ukulele & Hibiscus exhibition rolls in to Surf World

Ukulele & Hibiscus exhibition rolls in to Surf World

This Friday evening, from 7:00 pm, Surf World in Currumbin will host the Ukulele & Hibiscus exhibition to celebrate the pint-sized instrument that has been ingrained in surfing culture from the very beginning.

There haven’t been too many musical instruments that have had a more profound connection with the sport of surfing than the ukulele. The Ukulele & Hibiscus exhibition showcases vintage and modern ukuleles that date from the early 1900s to today alongside colourful pieces by local artist Jenny Midson.

Ukulele & Hibiscus will also screen a documentary called Waikiki – riding the Winds of Change that features never before seen archival footage and interviews with past and present surfers. The film features traditional Hawaiian chants, music, language and culture as well as the famed Hawaiian coastline of folklore. The exhibition is on for one night only as part of Bleach* Festival so come down to Surf World Gold Coast and say aloha.
