Popsicle pop-ups, Sunday sessions and Christmas crafts – things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend
From drive-ins to night markets, we’ve rounded up the top things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend. Here’s a snapshot of what’s on from Thursday December 2 to Sunday December 5.
Dorsett Gold Coast Pop-Up Vintage Caravan: Catch the eggshell-blue-hued vintage caravan that’s coming to Broadwater Parklands on December 4 and 5 to celebrate the highly anticipated opening of the uber-luxe Dorsett Hotel Gold Coast! Enjoy a free popsicle to celebrate the first weekend of summer along with a whole bunch of fun for the whole family. Keep your eyes peeled for free balloon artistry near the park’s bouncy pillow, plus your chance to win the ultimate summer staycay. Perched in prime position in Broadbeach, the Dorsett Gold Coast is set to open its doors on Boxing Day. Make sure you head down early to nab your sweet treat as there are a limited number available – the pop-up will run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.
Sanctuary Sounds Sunday Sessions: Sit back and enjoy some amazing live tunes from local legends while the whole family enjoys a Sunday session at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary! This Sunday December 5 will see the commencement of chilled-out Sunday Sessions at the Village Green. Dine on a selection of delicious bites and sip on a bevvy while the kids play and community gathers together. Featuring a different musical act each week, the event will have a chilled out, family-friendly vibe, providing community members the opportunity to get together for food and drinks as the sun goes down while supporting local artists.
Eco Christmas Wreath Weaving Workshop at Biome: Learn how to weave beautiful eco-friendly Christmas wreaths using nothing more than sustainably foraged foliage from your own backyard. Come along to this fun and engaging workshop and walk away with your very own hand-woven foraged Christmas wreath, ready to display at home. Emma from Cultivate Collective will explain the best types of foliage to use that are easily accessible in local backyards at this time of year. The hand-weaving technique means that your wreath will be made entirely of natural materials – no wire or tape (or even twine) necessary.
Bellini Saturdays at Nineteen at The Star: Celebrate Saturday afternoons with a cocktail in hand at Bellini Saturdays at Nineteen at The Star. From 4:00–7:00 pm every Saturday, enjoy free-flowing Bellinis teamed with an indulgent share platter for just $79 per person. The delicious array of bites includes freshly shucked oysters, house-cured olives and mushroom and mozzarella arancini balls, along with a selection of delicious cheeses, charcuterie and French fries with garlic aioli.
TwiLit Markets: Held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, the new evening event will dish up an enticing array of stalls ranging from locally made wares through to fresh produce and, of course, a mouth-watering selection of food trucks. Featuring an ever-evolving line-up of micro-restaurants, the TwiLit Markets invites your tastebuds on a global adventure with just a wander through the stalls!
Christmas Crafts at The Strand: Head to Coolangatta this weekend and make a beeline for the Christmas Beach Shack at The Strand, which will run Christmas Crafts daily from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm until Friday December 24. You can find the Christmas Beach Shack on The Strand’s ground level (near Truckloads and outside Just Sunnies) where the kidlets will be able to create free Christmas bags, stockings and Santas!
Unfit Run Club Gold Coast: Unfit Run Club was created as a weekly social gathering aiming to get our bodies moving again while supporting the local cafe scene. The Brisbane-based gang are now making the trip down the M1 to the coast – a long-awaited migration that’s been requested by many a coast-dwelling aspirational runner. The cafe choice changes each week, with the full line-up for the coming weeks to be announced soon, but this week’s run is kicking off at Custard Canteen. Head here for the low-down.
Dreamworld Fun Run: Get ready, get set and run for a fantastic cause at Dreamworld’s Fun Run event sponsored by Choice Homes and supporting LIVIN. You can choose from a 5 km Fun Run that starts at 7:00 am where you’ll snake around both Dreamworld and WhiteWater World, or a 2 km Junior Dash that starts at 8:00 am where you’ll weave through Dreamworld’s themed kids precincts and you’ll enjoy plenty of entertainment and excitement along the way! Prefer to walk it? That’s okay!
Disney+ Drive In: It’s back! Buckle up and grab the popcorn because your favourite Disney drive-in has returned for another season of fun. The much-loved event is here for another round – it will pop-up at Carrara Sports Precinct Parking and is dedicated exclusively to Disney movies – huzzah! The flicks run almost nightly until Monday January 3.
Dumpling Dreams at HOTA: For the young and the young-at-heart, we have the perfect event that’s going to turn your world technicolour! Get set for a kaleidoscope of fun in the form of a brand-new family friendly exhibition that’s hitting the HOTA Gallery in November. Dumpling Dreams is set to unleash a whimsical new world of fun, discovery and adventure that will be brought to life by Brisbane-based art extraordinaire YEAHYEAHCHLOE. Expect your little ones to explore their creative sides in a safe and friendly environment at the exhibition that is perfect for both the young and the young-at-heart.
Pet Photos at Robina Town Centre: One of the most popular Christmas traditions is making a welcome return to Robina Town Centre this month, with pet photos hitting The Promenade for the festive season. It’s the perfect opportunity to capture a picture-perfect paw-trait with the whole brood and let them have a cheeky word with Santa too! Pet photos will run each weekend until Sunday December 5 from 5:00–8:00 pm. Bookings are essential so secure your spot here.
Sanctuary Cove’s Carols on The Green: Christmas Carols are set to fill the air at Sanctuary Cove, as locals sing along to their favourite Christmas songs at the annual Carols on the Green on Thursday December 2. Starting from 5:00 pm, Christmas Carols will fill the air as talent, such as Renae Suttie and Wes Taylor Duo, take to the stage. Gather for a night under the stars on the Marina Lawn to enjoy a harmonious night of singing and dancing all while raising funds for local charity, ConnectKids.
