Oktoberfest (in March!), bottomless lunches and rooftop Mardi Gras parties – what’s on across the coast this weekend
From a live music single launch to unmissable warehouse sales, the coast is serving up its fair share of events this weekend. Here’s a snapshot of what’s on from Thursday March 4 to Sunday March 7.
Rooftop Mardi Gras Party at The Island Rooftop: Don your most fabulous attire and head to The Island Rooftop for the ultimate party to celebrate Mardi Gras this Sunday! With a special edition Grazie Days lunch being offered on the day, there’ll even be a makeup artist on-hand to ensure you’re looking your best for the afternoon of glamour. Glass Child at HOTA: Presented by HOTA and The Farm, this weekend is your only chance to watch Glass Child. The show is described as a poignantly revealing depiction of the sibling relationship between Kayah (a young man with Down Syndrome) and his sister Maitreyah. Expressed through dance, theatre and storytelling, Glass Child highlights the siblings’ connection and how their lives have been affected by other people’s perceptions. Oktoberfest Saturdays at The Bavarian: There’s no longer a need to wait until October for the much-loved stein-swilling festival Oktoberfest, as it’s coming to The Bavarian this weekend! Commencing this Saturday March 6, The Bavarian restaurants are bringing the Oktoberfest spirit to the much-loved pub each month, with mini-Oktoberfest themed days in full German costume of dirndls and lederhosen, with live bands throughout the day and into the evening. Clean Up Australia Day at Currumbin: The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Sustainability and Innovation Committee has teamed up with the Currumbin RSL for a massive effort this Clean Up Australia Day! Head down on Sunday morning and join in to clean up the local area while hanging out with other local legends. There’ll be the chance to collect prizes for those who collect the most rubbish and sort it on the day, and light refreshments will be available at the end. Peep all the details here.
Raw Deep Single Launch at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse: On Friday 5 March, catch the Raw Deep ‘Squeezing My Heart’ single launch at one of the coast’s favourite live music venues, Mo’s Desert Clubhouse. Special guests Catchpole will be joining local faves Raw Deep for the night which promises to be full of energy. The single will be released on Friday morning and this event is their first live performance after spending lock down pumping out tunes, so you know it’s going to be a cracker of a live set! Dana Gehrman at Dust Temple: The Brisbane-based songstress Dana Gehrman has spent many hours on the road with Tim Rogers (You Am I), Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything) and Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), and has opened for acts like The Teskey Brothers, Russell Morris, Sarah McLeod (The Super Jesus) and more. Now, she’s coming to Dust Temple and unleashing her nostalgic tunes on Friday 5 March. With a vintage-inspired vibe that’s reminiscent of the 70’s, Dana’s much-loved stage presence is captivating and nostalgic. Get your ticket here.
