From caviar to champagne sunsets – five unmissable events at The Star Gold Coast this summer

It’s that time of year – Christmas is just around the corner, the sun is popping up earlier by the day and our social calendars are filling up by the second. Actually, while we’re on the topic of your social calendar – keep it open and grab a pen … or your finger (for the iCalendar type). The Star Gold Coast is rolling into summer in spectacular style with a bunch of events that will keep your stomach, eyes and ears most content. From caviar cuisine and champagne sunsets to live tribute shows and (very) raw comedy, here are five unmissable events happening at The Star Gold Coast this side of summer.

Champagne and Caviar Month, until November 30
Friends, it’s time to don the fancy pants and enjoy some of the finer things in life. If you’ve got a palette for caviar and love to sip top-notch champagne, then you’ll want to hang out at Kiyomi and Cucina Vivo for the rest of November. You’re invited to treat yo’self to specially curated caviar-inspired dishes that have been perfectly matched to champagne. Uh huh, that’s right – an entire month dedicated to celebrating the pairing of these two classic delicacies. Kiyomi’s Japanese interpretation of caviar will feature dishes like a trout tart with trout tartare, caviar and ocean trout roe, and toro nigiri with caviar and crispy nori. Venture to Cucina Vivo where you’ll find Italian dishes like venison carpaccio with Calvisius Oscietra caviar, foie gras, pickled chanterelle mushroom and caper soil. You’d best make sure those fancy pants are the stretchy kind – you’ll be in for one sophisticated feast.

Veuve Clicquot Airstream Pop-Up, until January 1, 2018
Sunny days at Garden Kitchen & Bar are a great vibe – and the arrival of the Veuve Clicquot Airstream just took Garden hangs to a whole new level. The Airstream has rolled into town again and will take pride of place on the Garden lawn, opening every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until January 1. This year the Airstream will add a splash of rosé to the sun-kissed venue, with Veuve Clicquot Rosé flowing by the glass or bottle, as well as classic Veuve Clicquot and Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc. It doesn’t stop there – you’ll also find a delicious menu alongside the bubbles, featuring the likes of tuna poke, oysters, charcuterie platters and cheese boards. You’ll never want to leave (you’ll have to eventually).

An Evening with Johnathan Thurston, Friday December 1
Yes, for real – a night with Johnathan Thurston. Sports fan or not, this will be a fabulous and insightful time with one of the greatest names in Australian sporting history. Ol’ JT is rugby league royalty – he came from humble beginnings and dominated over many years to become one of the code’s most influential names. We’ve all seen him on the field, but this is an exclusive opportunity to get an insight into his life off the field. You’ll hear all about this childhood, culture and career, and it will be delivered in a very intimate setting. If JT intrigues you, or if you’ve got a mad league fan in your inner circle, then you won’t want to miss this one.

Kevin Bloody Wilson: Almost Awesome Tour, Saturday December 9
Guys, this will be an absolute cracker. Kevin Bloody Wilson is one of Australia’s most left-of-centre comedy legends. If it’s been a big year then you could probably use a good belly laugh from this genius and outrageously funny man. It’s rated R18+, so you know you’ll be in for a knee-slapping time full of original Australian comedy. Why not let loose and have some unconventional fun with Kev?

Michael Jackson History Show, December 29–31
Seriously, what an unbelievable way to finish off the year. The world-renowned The Michael Jackson History Show will land at The Star for three incredible nights, topped off by a massive New Year’s Eve celebration show. The mind-blowing tribute will celebrate the generation-defining music and compositions of Michael Jackson. The star will be brought to life on stage by performer Dantanio, accompanied by a six-piece live band, dancers, mind-blowing sets and eye-catching costumes. This state-of-the-art production will feature all of your favourite MJ hits – so get ready to dance. This is an absolute must-see.
