Spirit of Akasha celebrates 40 years since surfing masterpiece

Albert Fazon’s surfing story Morning of the Earth is being commemorated in this new film created by Andrew Kidman, Spirit of Akasha.

In 1971, Albert Fazon, a surfer and filmmaker, and G Wayne Thomas, a musician, worked together to create Morning of the Earth, a film dedicated to surfing and music. The film portrayed surfers and nature living in harmony, searching for the perfect wave along the Australian coast and as far as Hawaii. The film became a cult sensation, sparking the surf film genre and resonating with those in tune with the tides.

40 years on, Andrew Kidman has decided to pay homage to the classic film by creating his own, Spirit of Akasha. The film has been screened around the world at numerous film festivals, earning rave reviews thanks to its seamless blending of surf and soundtrack. Looking at surfing in the millennium generation, Spirit of Akasha features renowned surfers such as Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, Kye and Joel Fitzgerald, Kelly Slater and many more.

On January 16, Spirit of Akasha will be screened at the Soundlounge in Currumbin. Tickets are $19.50 and should be purchased immediately if you have a passing interest in surfing of classic film interpretations.
