Five unmissable events happening at Southport Sharks this summer

It’s officially that time of year – the days are getting longer, the festive season is here and our social calendars are brimming with goodness. In the spirit of summer (our favourite time of year) we’ve hand picked some of the best events happening out at Southport Sharks so you can fill your weekends and Christmas holidays with everything from frosé-spiked soirees to live acoustic sessions and family-friendly fun.

Frosé on Fleek
The team at Cabana Bar & Lounge know how to throw a Sunday session, and the summer edition – aptly named Frosé on Fleek – could be your ultimate weekly soiree. Kicking off at 12:00 pm every single Sunday throughout December, January and February (the first one is on Sunday December 2), Rosé on Fleek is all about everybody’s favourite summer wine – rosé. The weekly event will see revellers treated to cocktails like the rosé spritz with strawberry liqueur, rosewater and lemonade (ahh, yum). There will be special summer eats like the mini mezze platters brimming with everything from za’atar to dolmades and grilled haloumi, plus crispy bao buns filled with Korean beef, kimchi slaw and Ink Gin pickles. Cheers to summer, tasty food and spritzes!

Acoustic Fridays at Cabana Bar
Had a big week? Ice-cold beers and live (and local) tunes is possibly the best way to forget the week that was and ease into your few days of freedom. Each and every Friday, Cabana Bar & Lounge hosts live acoustic sessions, which sees a rotating line-up of incredibly talented musicians take the stage. You can kick back in your own private cabana with a cocktail in hand and soak up the sounds from some of the city’s best emerging and established talents. The summer acoustic line-up is killer, though we’re itching to see Brooke Supple (who has performed with the likes of Sinead O’Connor and David Gray) on Friday December 14, and songwriting wizard Eleea Navarro, who will take over on Friday December 28. Keep your eyes on the Entertainment Calendar for the monthly line-up.

Live (and loud) music
Southport Sharks’ summer calendar of free live concerts on the main stage kicks off in style with RnB group Manu Music upping the ante on Saturday December 1 – it’ll start soulful and relaxing, but boy there will be some bangers later in the show. If you missed Taylor Swift’s recent Brisbane extravaganza, it’s okay, there’s still hope yet – the Taylor Swift Tribute is happening on Saturday December 15, which is set to deliver the full breadth of the T-Swift collection, from early tunes to recent mega hits. Four-piece South Australian group The McKenzie’s will be dropping dance-worthy covers on the main stage on Friday December 21 for those keen to let their hair down after the last working day of the year. The best part? They are all free!

Family Christmas Night
The weekend before Christmas is always when the festive spirit is at an all-time high! For those that just can’t contain their excitement and want to get a little taste of Christmas before the big day, head along to Family Christmas Night. Santa (yes, the actual Santa) will be there and you can treat yo’self to a decadent Christmas-themed buffet with all of the trimmings. There will be live entertainment, Christmas carols (which may or may not include Mariah Carey versions), plus presents and fun for the little people – so round up the entire brood and start Christmas a little early this year!

Do New Year’s Eve in style
Can you believe it’s almost time to say goodbye to 2018 and g’day to 2019? If you feel like this year has gone too fast, then it’s certainly not going to slow down now – so it’s time to firm up your New Year’s Eve plans. Do it in true foodie style at Pop Fizz Clink at Carmody’s, where you’ll indulge for one final feast with a sumptuous three-course dinner prepared by chef de cuisine, Nathan Hay. If you’re more into cocktails, tropical vibes and laid-back house beats, New Year’s Tropicale at Cabana Bar will be your kind of jam. Or, rock your socks off to Cold Chisel anthems and ring in the new year with some of Jimmy Barnes’ finest scores at the NYE Forever Now Party on the main stage. Sneaky side note – we’ve heard whispers that there is a rather fancy skyline soiree happening over at Aviary Rooftop Bar this New Year’s too … so keep your pretty eyes peeled, we’ll be dropping details on that one very soon.
