Signs of The Time Exhibition launches at The Arts Centre Gold Coast
The Arts Centre Gold Coast as launched an exciting new street-art exhibition, Signs of The Time, which will extend well beyond the walls of the Gold Coast City Gallery. The imaginative new showcase will be a collaborative presentation of extraordinary local and national artists and forms a thrilling new direction as the Gallery and the Arts Centre prepare for the future Gold Coast Cultural Precinct.
The new exhibition, the Arts Centre Gold Coast’s first for 2017, showcases street-art – which is all about taking art to the people and making it accessible for all. Held at at the Gold Coast City Gallery from February 18 to April 9, Signs of The Time will feature a mind-blowing series of private and newly commissioned artworks, which explore how street art reflects our society and culture. Renowned urban artists Banksy, Bambi and Blek Le Rat are among the Signs of the Time exhibitors. In addition to the main gallery exhibition, the foyer has been transformed into an urban laneway showcasing original street artworks featuring names like 40/40 Creative, Lorraine Abernethy, Sarah Beetson, Beastman, Shannon Doyle, Claudio Kirac, E.L.K., Fuzeillear, HA HA, Libby Harward, Paul Parker, Johnny Romeo, Kiel Tillman, SK412 and Matthew Te Paea.
This week the exhibition’s programming kicked into gear with a commissioned activation called Shedload of Street Art, with artists Elliot Routledge (aka Numskull) and Mike Makatron appointed to create murals on two large work sheds on The Arts Centre Gold Coast site. After a week on site, the ‘blank canvases’ have now been transformed with bright, high-impact murals, in a vibrant celebration of street art – go and check them out! The exhibition launch also marks the beginning of a number of exciting new activations for the gallery, including ArtLab, a monthly workshop for toddlers to teens, and Gallery Nights, which will see after-hours access to the gallery with art-making, drinks and music – you don’t have to be an expert, these are aimed at the everyday scribbler. You’ll find the full line-up of events here.
