Flume, Bernard Fanning, The Rubens and more unite for Secret Sounds Flood Aid

As we all know, the last few weeks have been devastating for many of our friends in Southeast Queensland and the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. A catastrophic natural disaster has ravaged areas of Brisbane, Lismore, Mullumbimby, Coraki and more, with floodwaters sweeping away entire livelihoods. To assist with the region’s ongoing recovery efforts, Secret Sounds has announced Flood Aid – a range of fundraising initiatives with 100 percent of money raised going directly to affected communities. With stellar gigs, tongue-in-cheek merch, auctions and more, there are plenty of ways to get involved to support the cause. Tickets go on sale today, Thursday March 17 – read on for details.

For the crew behind Secret Sounds, Southeast Queensland and the Northern Rivers are home. The grounds of its biggest events, Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival Byron, neighbours many of the flood-affected areas, and many of its family, friends and team (including co-CEO Paul Piticco) live and work in the region. In a huge effort to support its much-loved community, the team has this morning announced Secret Sounds Flood Aid, with the aim to raise $1 million in one month for flood relief.

Three huge fundraiser gigs will kick off the fundraising, with tickets going on sale today, Thursday March 17, at 12:00 pm AEDT (that’s 11:00 am Queensland time). The first is this Saturday March 19, where Flume will be hitting the Kingscliff Hotel for a DJ set with a bunch of friends, including Andy Garvey, Demeeeela, Rona, Jono Ma and DJ Seinfeld. Next up is Australian icon Bernard Fanning, who will be taking to The Fortitude Music Hall stage on Saturday March 26, joined by The Rubens, Last Dinosaurs, Cub Sport (DJ set), Stevan and Hanni. On the same evening, Wolfmother, Dune Rats, Tex Perkins and Jez Mead, WAAX, Kobie Dee and Mylee Grace will be taking over the Byron Beach Hotel in Byron Bay. In addition to all of this musical goodness, Flight Facilities has allocated 100 tickets at a special price of $99.90 for its almost-sold-out Airfields event this weekend in Sydney, will all proceeds from those tickets going to Secret Sounds Flood Aid.

If you can’t make it to a gig, fear not – there are still plenty of ways to get involved over the next month. The team has created limited-edition ‘Where The Muddy Hell Are You?’ merchandise, there will be a Flood Aid Auction selling off some money-can’t-buy experiences (including VIP tickets to the sold-out 2022 Splendour in the Grass), and more. A bunch of organisations have already kicked off the fundraising efforts, with Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival Byron each donating $100,000 and Bank of Queensland coming on board to sponsor the gigs. One-hundred percent of the money raised will go directly to flood-affected communities, with funds being distributed between LifelineGIVIT, local Bundjalung region newspaper Koori Mail, and the Northern Rivers Community Foundation.
