It’s time to kick off the shoes and get some sand between your toes – the Sand Safari Arts Festival is back to transform the Surfers Paradise beachfront (and beyond!) for an annual celebration of sand and sea-inspired art. The action kicks off on Friday February 9 and runs through until February 25.

The 17-day festival will see the beachfront and streets of Surfers Paradise come to life with a series of displays, art installations and activations to celebrate the sand and the sea. The free event attracts thousands throughout its duration, with one of the key events being the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, which sees some of the world’s most talented sculptors create intricate life-sized masterpieces from sand. Everything from animals to mermaids and mythical creatures will be carved into shape on the Surfers Paradise foreshore, with each sculpture this year themed around sport.

Like previous years, there will be giant inflatable creatures scattered throughout Surfers Paradise, including displays hanging off the side of buildings –  we’re told they will be bigger and better this year, so keep your eyes peeled! The festival will see the Sand Trail extend beyond Surfers Paradise and into other areas like local libraries, hotels, shopping centres and sports centres. You can find out more about the Sand Safari Arts Festival program online.
