Spring has sprung, the flowers are blooming and the days are getting longer and hotter. Don’t you love it? So you can get in the spirit, we have hand-picked a fun selection of events happening across the Gold Coast this October, from family-friendly art exhibitions and revved-up car races to country music festivals and high teas. Helping you get there is the always handy G:link, which operates across 19 stops from Helensvale down to Broadbeach South.

Boost Mobile GC 500
Hold onto your hats, folks, the Supercars are coming! The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 is gearing up to take over the streets of Surfers Paradise for three supercharged days of fun from October 27–29 and the best way to get there is the G:link. Catch the G: to Main Beach Station and join more than 200,000 motorheads on the streets, where the drivers are set to battle it out in the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 Supercars Championship. Witness all of the thrills and spills from the grandstand or take in the sights and sounds from ground level. The best part? Public transport is available on select services to and from the event with a pre-purchased ticket.

Groundwater Country Music Festival
Practise your line dancing as the Groundwater Country Music Festival is taking over Broadbeach from October 20–22 for three incredible days of country music this year! The springtime event will make the most of warm days and long nights, featuring acts like Lee Kernaghan, Jackson Dean (USA), Casey Barnes, Amber Lawrence, Asleep at the Wheel (USA) and many more. Groundwater Country Music Festival is completely free to attend and there will be plenty happening across a variety of stages so bust out your denim tuxedo and spruce up your cowboy boots, because you’re in for a boot-scootin’ good time. To get there, ride the G: to Broadbeach North station – don’t forget your cowboy hat!

Sheraton Spring High Tea
Prepare to dine and drink in style this season as Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort is hosting a luxe Pink Ribbon Spring High Tea. Running daily from 12:00–4:00 pm until November 30, this sumptuous session of sipping and snacking will see guests savour decadent delicacies in support of a good cause, with $5 from every high tea booking donated directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Sweet treat lovers can indulge in moreish bites like rose and vanilla eclair, raspberry opera slice and lemon-curd tart with toasted lime marshmallow. There’s also a Victorian vanilla sponge with berries and cream, Belgian white chocolate and raspberry macaroons and homemade scones with vanilla clotted cream and strawberry compote. Yum! To get there, ride the G: to Main Beach station, then catch the connecting 704 bus.

Colour Your Imagination – Just add books
If you’re keen to rediscover the beauty of books this spring, take your kids to HOTA Gallery’s newest kid-friendly exhibition, Colour Your Imagination – Just add books. Showing at HOTA’s Children’s Gallery until January 28, 2024, this enchanting exhibition invites little ones and grown ups to rediscover the magic of libraries and their treasured contents. As part of the exhibition, the Children’s Gallery has transformed into a larger-than-life library, with a colourful collection of giant books to both play and lounge in. The exhibition offers a range of interactive activities, with families invited to explore the Never Ending Library wall to take a cheeky pic, curl up in one of the cosy book nooks, flip through the interactive Book of Book Paintings, which showcases Victoria’s remarkable artworks, or even climb the Floating Bookstack. To get there, catch the G: and get off at the Cypress Avenue stop, and enjoy a short 10-15 minute stroll through Chevron Island over to HOTA using the Green Bridge. Bring a picnic and soak up some sun at Evandale Park afterwards!

Southport Aqua Park
Spring’s rising temperatures mean one thing – we can play again at the Southport Aqua Park at Broadwater Parklands! Featuring some of the highest water inflatables in Australia, this inflatable water park course is fun for kids and kids at heart. All you have to do is strap on a life vest and the course if your oyster – you’ll climb, swim and jump across rides, slides and trampolines. Keen to dive in and test your strength and stamina out on the water? To get there, Ride the G: to Broadwater Parklands station. Just remember to bring your swimmers!
