Pups on SUPS paddles back to the Gold Coast this October
If you’ve got a dog and know your way around a SUP, then make sure you’ve got Sunday October 28 in your diary – Pups on SUPS is back! Following its hugely successful inaugural event at Currumbin Creek last year, Pups on SUPS will this year move north to Southport’s Broadwater Parklands for a day of four-legged fun.
A paddleboard race for dogs? Yep, only on the Gold Coast! Pups on SUPS (for those a little green to the concept – SUP is an acronym for ‘stand-up paddle board’) is a fun-filled day for dogs and their humans, with a series of SUP races happening across the Broadwater. You and your pooch can test yourselves with the two-kilometre race or opt for the heart-starting 500-metre sprint.
Don’t worry if you’re a little unsteady on your feet – famous dog whisperer and former World Champion tandem surfer Chris de Aboitiz will be at the event again to make sure all pooches are safe with training and Q&A sessions. There will be boards for hire if you’re not a SUP owner, plus there will be prizes, giveaways, a bunch of pet-specific stalls and vendors with human food. Each dog gets a fancy Gummi pet lead upon registering, with $5 from every entry going to the Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ). Grab your furry friend and get paddling, pals!
