Art and skateboards come together in Plank Canvas

Bringing the worlds of art and skating together, Plank Canvas is an exhibition of one-off skateboard decks that have been handmade and decorated by a range of local artists from across disciplines.

Taking over Double Bassment in Byron Bay this Friday December 4, Plank Canvas, facilitated by Cottage Skateboards’ owner Jimmy Kakanis, showcases work from eight local Byron Bay artists. Each artist has designed, shaped and crafted their own little shred sled that reflects their unique style of art.

Among the artists involved in this year’s showcase are resin artist and wildlife conservationist Mitch Gobel, photographer Josh Hedge and street artist NITSUA. Each of the works will be for sale on the night so if you’re looking for a Christmas gift with a little meaning this year, head along and support local creatives. Plank Canvas is sponsored by Stone & Wood Brewing Company, so there’s plenty of beer if that adds any additional motivation.
