Part show, part bar, 100-percent magic – Maho Magic Bar is here to surprise and delight your senses

Pick a card, any card. Remember the number, now put it back in the deck … while we have no idea what card you pulled out, we can point you in the direction of some fine magicians that will wow you with plenty of close-up magic tricks and leave you rubbing your eyes in wonder. If you like your cocktails served with a side of magic and neon-lit charm, then pull up a seat at the Maho Magic Bar and prepare for a night that will surprise and delight your senses. Straight from the streets of Tokyo, the Magic Makers from Maho Magic Bar are hitting the Gold Coast for a limited time and are ready to serve up delicious drinks and mystifying magic tricks.

From May 12, you can step into this purpose built, bespoke venue at the Broadwater Parklands as part of the Spiegeltent Gold Coast program and be transported to the neon-lit nightlife districts of Japan. From Tuesday to Sunday, lovers of magic can say settle in for a 60-minute performance session at the bar, sipping on a menu of curated authentic Japanese drinks while being wowed by Japan’s best close-up magicians. Get ready to grace your palate with traditional sake from Shiga, Hiroshima and Shizuoka, sip on Kyushu shochu, or douse your desires in a speciality cocktail. Think negronis made on tenjaku-blended Japanese whisky, Maho style G&Ts, or unique creations like the Okinawa Paradise filled with lychee liqueur, apple, rose, lime and vodka, or a sweet gin delight aptly titled ‘For Goodness Sake’. If you’re after something a little more ‘Aussie’, you can rest assured the bar will happily serve up beer, wine, spirits and plenty of non-alcoholic drinks. For those hoping to completely succumb to the magic of the evening, why not select a surprise experience from the ‘special menu’?

Once your tipple is sorted, the illusions can well and truly begin. Let one of the five magic-makers entertain and bewitch your senses. Look out for Kaori Kitazawa and her cheeky mix of kawaii charm and superb skills. Let Sarito scoot you to the edge of your seat as he performs a high-risk repertoire that includes needles, gaffa tape, detergent and … a panda? From one mad genius to another, Shohgo Yamashita will wow you with his unique new genre of magic that artfully combines story-telling and traditional magic skills. Next up is Sho Eba, the perfect ring leader for the gang of magic superstars, oozing mischievous charm, we’re warned that this hustler rarely looses. Last but certainly not least is Santa Terakado, who brings a veritable menagerie of goofy toy friends to the table, ready to rumble! While you’re sure to see a deck of cards or two, this crazy crew don’t stop there and you’ll witness magic made with balloons, needles, nails, coins, tape, fire, stuffed toys, tic tacs, Pepsi, tomatoes and even a cup of Japanese ramen noodles!

This bespoke experience will captive your senses and allow you to escape from the every day as you’re swept into a neon cocoon of magic, mystery and delicious cocktails. While not everything needs to be seen to be believed, we can assure you that this enchanting evening is one you won’t want to miss. Several performance session times are available each day, with special family-friendly seating taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Tickets are limited, so secure your spot at the bar and get ready to sip on this esoteric elixir before the magic makers disappear from the Gold Coast entirely.
