Snacks and sundowners – get set for spring with another season of free live tunes on The Lawn
Spring has sprung, which means it’s time to pack away The Oodie (deliciously soft wearable blankets, for those who missed the memo) and venture out from hibernation. Thankfully, we needn’t travel too far to find a fun time, as The Star Gold Coast has dropped a hot-as-heck line-up of entertainment for its new-season incarnation of Live on The Lawn at Garden Kitchen & Bar. Bevvies, bites and bangers – sounds like a vibe to us! This time around, the festivities are brought to you by Squealing Pig wine – so if you’re fond of a drop, you can enjoy entertainment in Garden Kitchen & Bar every Thursday, and Live on The Lawn from Friday to Sunday from September 2 to October 17.
If you’re yet to experience Live on The Lawn, allow us to set the scene. As dusk descends, the party is just getting started. You find a picnic table with your name on it as you eye off the cocktails emerging from the bar. The Squealing Pig Spritzed Rosé takes your fancy (excellent choice, by the way) as you begin to notice the first pangs of hunger. Luckily, the Container Kitchen is firing, churning out a selection of snacks and more hearty bites. You can’t decide between the fried-chicken sando loaded with slaw or the house-smoked salmon skewers, but that kid in the taco commercial pops into your head to say ‘why not both?’, so you do. No regrets! Suddenly it’s 8:30 pm and the headline act hits the decks. The party is now officially in full swing and the rest of the night rolls into a happy, hazy blur of dancing. Oh, and we forgot the best part – it’s free entry!
Kicking things off on Saturday September 4 is Bombs Away. After a decade touring the globe as a party-starting duo, Sketch (one-half of Bombs Away) has hung up his headphones, handing the reins to Tommy, who is taking things to a lofty new level as a solo artist. Get a glimpse of Tommy’s new single ‘Don’t You Dare‘ here and see for yourself why Bombs Away has had over one billion combined streams. Saturday September 11 will see the iconic Brooke Evers hit the decks, with the local legend delivering her unique brand of electro-house combined with old-school bangers, followed by Taleena on Saturday September 18. Her latest tech-house track ‘Boots N Cats’ has been delighting ears and gaining some serious traction on a playlist curated by AlunaGeorge – so here’s your chance to catch Taleena before she really blows up into the stratosphere. Next on the line-up is the rescheduled DJ set for Dirty South on Saturday September 25, followed by Jesse Bloch on Saturday October 9. Known for his hype-inducing social media presence and his vast music collection, Jesse has earned his place as one of the country’s most prolific exports.
The fun doesn’t end there – for those in favour of a cruisy sunset session before getting back to the Monday grind, head down on a Sunday afternoon to check out McKenzie Band. The local legends pump out all of our favourites, from old classics to modern-day anthems, while bringing the good vibes in spades. McKenzie Band will be at Live on The Lawn every Sunday from 4:00–7:00 pm.
