Live and loud – five must-see music gigs on the Gold Coast

No matter how fast your social calendar is filling up, live music always comes first – so make some room! There’s plenty happening on the music scene across all corners of the Gold Coast, so we’ve handpicked a diverse list of must-see music gigs, from rule-breaking punks to Fat Boy Slim anthems remixed by an Orchestra. Treat your ears and put these in your iCalendar.

Regurgitator at Kingscliff Beach Hotel, August 24: Those with an urge to ‘gurge can catch the artificial simulation live and (very) loud at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel on Friday August 24. Fill your ears with everything  from ‘!(The Song Formerly Known As) ‘and ‘Polyester Girl’ to tracks from the new HEADROXX album. A great excuse to head to new-look Kingy Hotel.

The Cat Empire at NightQuarter, September 23: It’s time to dance up a storm – this is going to be one helluva fun show. As part of their national tour, The Cat Empire will be taking their new songs (and some of the classics) to NightQuarter on Sunday September 23. The Cat Empire’s unstoppable energy and showmanship is bound to make you move (and smile) all night long.

Buskers by the Creek, Currumbin, October 13–14: Lover of live and local beats? Well this is a great way to get your fix – this year’s Buskers by the Creek festival will see more than 300 (yes, 300) performers take over the Currumbin creekside – we’re talking some of the most renowned buskers through to emerging talents. We’ll keep you posted with more details on this killer line-up of performers, so watch this space. In the mean time, throw the date in your diary.

Ministry of Sound: Orchestrated at HOTA, December 7: If you grew up listening to Ministry of Sound compilation CDs (remember those?) on repeat, mark Friday December 7 in your diary because you’re invited to step back in time and dance the night away at HOTA for Ministry of Sound: Orchestrated. The best dance tracks from the likes of Fatboy Slim, Moby, Eric Prydz and Robert Miles, will be rearranged, remixed and reimagined by a live symphony orchestra. This is going to be next level – tickets will go quick, so don’t muck around.

Best Night Ever at NightQuarter, December 29: While you’ve got a few months to gird your loins for this show, the tickets are selling fast so consider this an official heads up. This annual almost-New Year’s Eve bash will see the rule-breaking Dune Rats on their final bender for the year – so it’s in your best interests to join them. The Gooch Palms and Totty will also be joining the Dunies’ fun, as well as Gold Coast locals Crum. We hear there are some special surprise acts to be announced too … oh, the suspense.
