Surf’s up! The Gold Coast Open brings skate jams, live music and sunrise yoga to Burleigh

One of the coast’s most popular surfing events, the Burleigh Pro, is back again this year, but this time it’s got a new identity – it’s now known as the Gold Coast Open. The event will roll into Burleigh Heads from May 7–12, with six action-packed days filled with everything from surfing (well, that’s a given) to music, entertainment, workshops, beachfront yoga and more.

The Gold Coast Open presented by Flight Centre will kick off on Tuesday May 7 with the pro junior surf competition, before the QS1500 Open Surf Comp ups the ante from Thursday May through to Sunday May 12. While the six-day surfing competition (including a celebrity surf-off on the Saturday) will keep spectators glued to Burleigh Headland, there will be plenty happening out of the water as well, with Burleigh Point springing to life with festival-like vibes across the weekend.

A pop-up skate ramp will be set up on Burleigh hill from Friday (May 10), which will host community skate clinics and mind-blowing skate demos across the weekend, while the unmissable Air Asia Expression Session will wow the crowds on the Sunday. There will also be a sunrise yoga session, followed by a Mother’s Day and family yoga session on the Sunday morning, as well as live music by Tones & I, Danny Love and The Vanns – and make sure you hang around to see who gets crowned as the Gold Coast Open champions.
